Research: Precedent Studies

I love the style and coloring for this one. It does have interactivity though a simple yet typical one, just click and a different sub page will appear rather than completely going to a different link or page. This website features lots of works and projects done by digital artist.

The pictures organisation is similar for what I have in mind for my application. Has cool special effects in this one. And the word "Loading" follows the mouse during the loading sequence so it does have some sort of interactivity.

I like how they design this website. The colors and atmosphere seemed very soothing.

The simplicity of this site's design is what interests me.Very cool effects too. This website is about a free lance write name Sheela Daley and her works.

Research: Interesting Sites

There are many interesting places to visit in Penang. Some are as the following examples:

SUFFOLK HOUSE

The first major site visited during the trip. Built in the 1780s on a vast estate owned by the founder of Penang, Captain Francis Light, the Suffolk House was considered the first "Great house of Penang" and it was named after the owner's birthplace in England. The unique mansion features authentic Anglo-Indian architecture, which earned it a special recognition from UNESCO. Over 40 years, the building have went through many stages of restoration. Today, part of the mansion has been converted into an a restaurant, which my classmates and I didn't get to see much....... (Boo!)

The Historic City of George Town

George Town was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. The city was founded 200 years ago and has an impressive collection of historic buildings representing the cultural heritage of Penang's various ethnicities. On our second day, we stopped and visited the areas in the area of the Core Zone.

1) Kapitan Keling Mosque

~Founded in 1801, it is the largest historic mosque in George Town. Designed in Moghul architecture, it features beautiful minarets and domes. Didn't manage to get in as it was close during the morning.....

2) Khoo Kongsi

~Completed around 1906, the temple belongs to the Khoo Kongsi clan. The temple features fine Chinese architecture and craftmanship.

(The map of Khoo Kongsi and its surrounding areas I presumed. Don't understand Chinese much)

3) Islamic Museum (Syed Al-Attas Mansion)

~Built in 1860, this elegant home was once the proud abode of Syed Mohammad Al-Attas, a prominent Achenese merchant who was a stalwart supporter of the Achehnese struggle against the Dutch. This home has been converted into an Islamic Museum to educate about the heritage of the Penang's Muslim community.

4) The Pinang Peranakan Mansion

~This old mansion, former home of Kapitan Chung Keng Kwee, showcases over 1000 antiques and collectibles depicting the life of the Straits Chinese, or Peranakan as they were locally known. The richly decorated mansion is also a popular filming location for movies and television series.

Concept & Proposal: The Metaphor & Message

Concept

I chose the travel lodge as my subtopic. The reason was because during the trip, I captured not only the interesting sites but also the surroundings. I also went walking on the streets with my friend. It was adventurous! I love the feeling of walking around the new places (despite some mishaps).

So, for this application, I want to give my audience the sense of adventure when they decide to go to Penang. In this application, the travel lodge will consists of information and pictures; similar to a gallery and pamphlet. Of course, for the parts on the interesting places to visit, I will only state a few tidbits about them in order to give the sense of curiosity to my audience, which I hope will lead them to go to the said places.

My Target Audience

-Aim: Youths (17 - 25 years old)
- Specifically tourists

Reason I chose these as my target demographic is because around this age group is where people became more mature on their mindset and thus enabling them to understand and appreciate things better. Of course, that depends on their own understanding capabilities.
